Dermot Fagan is the founder and leader of the Rastafarian mansion or group called His Imperial Majesty’s Haile Selassie I School of Vision, Bible Studies, Prophecies & Sabbath Worship. Before turning to Rastafari Fagan was a member of the Jamaica Defense Force and also had an opportunity to travel to the United States. Both of these experiences have deeply impacted the spiritual leader and explain his emphasis on developing discipline and the love of self regardless of race among the members of his school.
The Temple Mount compound of School of Vision is located on a hillside above the Middleton District which is on the way to the Jamaica Defence Force soilder’s camp, New Castle. In this community that Fagan and his members have established there is a focus on the study of the King James Bible, the teachings of Haile Selassie I and a focus on self-sustaining farming. Even though School of Vision is one of the newer Rasta groupings to have developed its impact along with the influence of its leader has made it one of the most progressive and notable developments in the landscape of Rastafari in Jamaica within the last few years.
